FAQs about Calibra Kitten Food

What type of food is best for kittens?

To give your kitten the best start in life, kitten food should contain a balance of proteins and calories to provide your kitten with the nutrients they need, as well as to help them grow.

Is it better to feed kittens wet or dry food?

There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to the type of kitten food you feed your young cat. Dry food is a convenient type of kitten food that helps with dental care and easy to store, whereas wet food is a great choice for cats who prefer softer textures or are looking for more moisture in their meals.

Our range of wet cat food and dry cat food are available in a wide range of flavours, so that you can find something to suit all tastes and preferences. Your cat might prefer wet food, dry, or a mixture of the two. It’s always worth trying your cat with different options to see how they get on.

It’s important to remember that feeding your cat a dry food diet means that they will require a lot more water than usual. Ensure your cat has plenty of water available throughout the day by placing multiple water bowls or fountains in readily available areas.

How many times a day should a kitten eat?

Because kittens only have small stomachs, it’s important not to overfeed them to make them ill. The frequency of how much you feed them does depend on the age of your kitten; however, below is a rough feeding guide:

  • 4-12 weeks (1-3lbs) – ½ cup of dry biscuits or ½-1 ½ tins of wet food divided into 3 to 4 meals a day
  • 12-24 weeks (3-5lbs) – 2/3 cup of dry biscuits or 1 ½ - 2 tins of wet food divided into 2 to 3 meals a day
  • 24-36 weeks (5-7lbs) – 1/3 – 2/3 cups of dry biscuits or 2/3 tins of wet food divided into 2 to 3 meals a day

*Please note, this feeding chart is only a guide. For your cat's individual needs or special dietary requirements, consult with your veterinarian.

When should I switch from kitten food to cat food?

Typically, kittens should switch from kitten food to adult cat food when they are around 12 months old. If you switch your kitten over any sooner, they may not receive all the nutrients they need from kitten food.

Is kitten food bad for adult cats?

Kitten food isn’t necessarily bad for adult cats; however, due to kitten food having higher calories and additional proteins and fats, these may cause a nutritional imbalance and weight gain for adult cats.
